​​The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776. The 13 American colonies had declared themselves a sovereign and independent nation, thus severing their political connections to Great Britain.

Bicentennial Celebration 1976 

1976 was the Bicentennial Celebration of the Birth of the United States of America. There was much to celebrate as a Nation paused to reflect on 200 years of Freedom and Progress. The atmosphere was joyous and grateful as the Nation remembered.
 
In 1976 Bicentennial Camp Meeting was an exciting time of reenactment, as the Church remembered.

…O be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on.

​The planning began months before... 
The women of the Church made colonial themed costumes for each member – adults, children, babies:
 
Ladies - Full length dresses with snowy white aprons and bonnets
Men - knee length knickers with long stockings, ruffled shirts with grosgrain ribbon ties

A Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance was held every evening.  A replica of the Liberty Bell was installed and a Call to Worship was signaled by the ringing of the bell. The entire Camp assembled in costume at the Liberty Bell and everyone marched around Covenant Square singing, “Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His Truth is marching on!” The congregation completed the march by entering the big top tent singing.  The Theme of the Services was “Freedom”.  ​

…As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free.  While God is marching on.

The Focus: ​Becoming new creations in Christ.
Old things are past away,

Freedom from habits, hang ups, struggles,
strongholds, hindrances and distractions.
